Issue #34: SEO 101 – Why Organic SEO is Key to Your Digital Marketing Strategy

Hey, guys, it’s Tom. I’m the Senior Director here at SEOversite. For the newsletter this month I thought it would be fun to switch it up and dive into some of the stats out there in the world of web design and the internet in general. Let’s talk about what we really need to be focusing on, like organic SEO!

One of the most striking things that I’ve recently come across is that almost 94% of total organic search volume is on Google. Now I know there are some other search engines out there ”Yahoo” etc., but Google is really the one that we need to be very closely watching and optimizing our websites for. And it’s true that close to 75% of people never even scroll past the first page of Google. So if your website isn’t getting listed on the first page you’re likely not getting seen by the eyeballs that you want to be seen by. People that are actively trying to find a business that does what you do, or what you have to offer, just might not be able to see that you exist. 

So what does this mean for my business, if I am in your shoes? This means that I need to make sure that I find a team that properly optimizes, does the proper link building and things of that nature, when it comes to SEO, to boost my organic search ranking so that I can consistently, not only be seen on the first page but in the top half of the page. And why is that important again? It’s so crucial that people don’t have to scroll on Google. I know I’m absolutely suspect here, I will typically not scroll at all. I’ll go for one of the top three or four search results or just search for something different if I’m not seeing pages that look like their relative to what I’m looking for. And the same thing goes with people that are trying to find your siding business, pressure washing, plastic surgery practice, you want to make sure that you’re right there at the tippity top.

One of the cool things about people finding you and your business through a search engine is that leads typically convert at a much higher rate then let’s say if they are being found on other outbound sources, email blast, things of that nature. Social media is another good one with a bit lower conversion rate because people on social media they don’t really know what they’re looking for, they’re just kind of browsing, cruising through things (Google drives 300% more traffic to sites than social media).  Whereas, people that are doing active searching on Google, they’re looking for something specific. So likely if they found your website by a Google search there’s a very good chance that they’d be willing to submit a form and their information to be contacted or just reach out to your business directly to get more information about what products or services you offer and convert that way.

So in summary what I’m trying to get out of here is that there’s a lot of really good information out there about what to do what not to do in this ever-changing ever-evolving digital world and it helps to have somebody on your side that kind of watches over everything for you to make sure everything runs smoothly. Whether it’s your firing up a new team, doing a website redesign, or simply trying to get some quality SEO going with pay-per-click, it helps to have a team that oversees those teams.
