When Should I Send My Email Blasts?

We all know that email marketing isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so we might as well make sure that we are doing everything in our power to make sure our emails are performing as well as they should be. A major part of this is making sure that you are sending your email blasts at the right time.

There are two factors that go into finding the best time to send email blasts. The first of which is the day, and the second is the time.

What Day is Best to Send an Email Blast?

A study done by GetResponse showed that weekdays are the best days to send your email blasts. In terms of clicks, Thursday and Tuesday took the lead with the average CTRs being at 2.70% and 2.68%, respectively.

We can see on the graph above that while Tuesday and Thursday have the best overall numbers, any weekday will perform better than Saturday or Sunday.

Why is this? Well, the simple answer is that during the weekends, people are less likely to do something that they deem “not fun”. And if we can be perfectly honest, opening emails are not fun, no matter how good of a deal is on the inside. Because of this, people are more likely to check their emails during their workday between their tasks and during breaks.

What is the Best Time to Send an Email Blast?

Like we said before, people are most likely to check their emails during their workday, so plan your email blasts around the most common break times. The biggest one being lunchtime. Think about your own lunch timing. A large number of people check their emails right before or right after their lunch break.

This isn’t just an anecdotal suggestion by us. According to a study by Coschedule, they say to send your emails between 9 and 11 am since open rates see a large spike in the late mornings.

Need more information to back up that claim? We’ve got you covered. Research done by WordStream has indicated the best time to send an email is on Thursday between 8 to 9 AM.

Studies done by Campaign Monitor have shown that most emails are opened on a mobile device; 47% of emails are opened outside work while 53% of emails are opened during work hours.

GetResponse’s data indicates that the best results are observed around 1 PM.

So, while the nitty-gritty details might have some slight variations, they are all covered by sending your email blasts during working hours between 8 to 11 AM.

As with any recommendation, there are always exceptions to the rules. For example, if you are working in the entertainment industry, people might be more likely to check your emails on the weekends because they are looking for something fun to do. But other than these kinds of exceptions, these rules should bring more positive results to your email marketing.
