Issue #6 – New Year, New Web Team
Not blown away by your web team’s results this year? Unfortunately, it is too late – 2015 is officially and completely over – at least from a website perspective. Improving web rankings and conversion rates takes time. Changing the direction of your website is tantamount to completing a 180 degree turn in a blimp – it can be done, but it is slow and deliberate. The good news is that by acting now, you can impact early 2016, though the clock is ticking. Here are a few key reasons that acting now to seek out a new website designer, SEO team, or other web vendor (live chat, ratings/reviews generators, and similar) may be a good idea.
- While most businesses in the medical, legal, retail and similar spaces have higher than average revenues during the last two months of the year, in most cases they are reaping what they have sown. In other words, the leads that called or emailed your business in September, October and November are your late-year buyers. So by acting now, you are generating leads that impact 2016, not the current year. If you don’t act now, you will be lucky to impact Q2 of 2016.
- Most business owners fear a temporary dip in results when overhauling a website or changing SEO teams. While rare if managed properly, these are real risks. As lead counts are typically lower over the holidays even while sales are higher (see #1 above) you actually minimize risk during this time.
- Web teams, in general, do very little over the holidays. Just like many medical, insurance, and legal offices, web teams take plenty of vacation and “phone it in” late in the year. Most of their clients are happiest late in the year or are out of town which further influences the web teams’ decisions to do a little less around the end of each year. With that said, this environment makes web teams hungry for business and ready to develop a proper plan to start 2016 strong.
- Last, while you, as a business owner, do tend to be busy with clients, there is usually some time off around the holidays. Mental space typically improves visionary thinking. There is time while traveling to review your website, to think about what changes you want in presentation and plan for 2016. By selecting a new vendor soon, you begin this evaluation since the holidays provide a nice chance to mentally “come up for air” to poise your web presence and business in general for a great year to come.
